Getting a Marriage License |

In the State of California, marriage licenses are typically issued by the County Clerk-Recorder’s office. There are two types of licenses: Regular and Confidential. The following general information pertains to both types:

REGULAR/PUBLIC LICENSE

CONFIDENTIAL LICENSE

Applying for a marriage license at the Nevada County Recorder’s Office takes approximately 30 minutes. Licenses are issued on a first-come, first-served basis and no appointment is required Following the ceremony, the officiant completes the marriage license and returns it to the Recorder’s Office, where it is registered. After that, certified copies of the license may be ordered in person, by mail, or by telephone. Certified copies are currently $13.00 each. If sent by mail, there will be an additional charge of $3.00 per order (not per copy). |
